Truth time

Keeping up momentum after January to stick to daily movement is not as easy as I thought. Although it takes around 28 days to form a habit, I think it takes longer to fully rewire not just your brain, habits, but also routine.

I’ve discovered a love for the early morning, however now that my half marathon training has ramped up and I’m running longer distances, this is more of a struggle to fit in in my morning window of 6am-7am. So instead of early cardio, I’m adapting the plan and fitting running INTO my life instead of working around it. Finding opportunity to run in new places, at different times that suit my work schedule. The structure and advice I get from both my Runna app and the community online is next-level motivating, and my early gyms are now focussed around strength and conditioning.

When I realised that the little decisions every day build up fitness and resilience, I find that to be equal parts terrifying and liberating. I heard recently ‘train hard, race easy’ and that’s exactly how I’m going to approach the next 6 weeks of training.

Extending Dry January into Dry Winter has been the easiest decision, with my half marathon on 31st March, also the Spring Equinox, I thought what better time than to dedicate the whole of my Winter to this goal. To get into my feelings and reasons for needing to unwind and instead of band-aiding, confront and work through. I realised that I love the ritual of unwinding and can do this with a cup of herbal tea, the occasional treat of a Trip Drink and honestly am enjoying the clarity of a sober lifestyle.

Training is hard physically, not training is hard mentally. I choose to keep momentum and see where it takes me.
