1/2 Marathon Training Diaries
7 weeks out. I feel like I’ve properly landed into this training cycle, after a January that was filled with activities for RED January, I found myself in a daily routine of movement that cemented my lifestyle of swimming, running and yoga. The beauty of doing more than one activity, for me, is the variety that cross training offers. When my legs are tired I’ll swim, when I feel motivated I’ll run, and whatever the situation, yoga.
I’m currently using Runna to train for my Spring half marathon, and so far loving how much structure it gives my week. Right now, the distance feels pretty lofty, but I’m feeling focussed on this goal and as the saying goes, I’m trusting the process. Where previously in my running life I thought that every run had to be a PB, that every run was flat out my best effort, Runna has shown me the benefit of clocking up the kms in a way that doesn’t stress my body more than it can cope with.
Steady and consistent work is seeping into other areas of my life in a way that has tackled some limiting self beliefs I’ve had for so long. The half marathon distance is humbling, a bit terrifying, but most of all, this target has landed me in the best head space I’ve experienced for a while.
So looking at the next 7 weeks, head down and staying curious about what the process is teaching me, I’m sure I’ll bring this experience into my yoga teaching one day (beyond excited for this!).
