Yoga for Athletes
After completing the most incredible Yogahaven 200hr YTT last year in London, I found that the reason that brought me to yoga was the very thing I’d want to explore and offer to others. I first came to yoga wanting to tackling my core strength, reduce niggling injuries, move in a different way and try a more holistic route to reaching the lofty distance goals I set in my mind.
As with any novice, enthusiastic about movement for sporadic bursts before falling inevitably into a period of injury and inactivity, I wanted desperately to continue doing what I loved, with a stronger body that could keep up with the demands. Not competitive with others in the slightest, in my swimming, running or yoga, I instead have learned that the end goal is longevity, consistency and, most importantly, listening.
My immersion course with the Yoga Institute for Sports Science was everything I hoped and more, a dive into the science of delivering yoga for a specific purpose, to make a real impact on an athlete or team with the use of asana, breathwork, mindfulness and meditation to support performance and recovery.
Having applied yoga in many ways over many years to support my own movement goals, I’ve managed to complete 3 half marathons, countless 10ks, a triathlon and (way back!) a Tough Mudder event. Currently in training for a Spring half marathon, I can attest to the power of connecting mind to body, understanding movement planes and patterns to manage a heavy load.
I’m so excited to bring both my personal experience and learned knowledge to people seeking a lifestyle that involves a form of movement each day. Where my day involves a swim, a run, or a yoga class (some spinning in the mix too!) I hope to show that the diversity in the way you move can contribute to a healthier and stronger body and mind.
